Hagi is an old castle town located off the major transport routes in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The influence of the age of Samurai survives in many places, including historically preserved homes in the Samurai Quarter, which are open to the public. This well-preserved former castle town is widely recognizable, and the local Hagiyaki Pottery produced from the area is among the finest in Japan. Hagi Castle and the surrounding Shizuki Park also welcome visitors. Visitors to the park will witness cherry blossom parties in the spring, as well as a shrine, a teahouse, the Jozangama pottery kiln, and a beautiful path that leads up to the top of Mt. Shizuki. Nearby is the Tokoji Temple, the family shrine of the Mori clan. The temple, with visible Chinese influences, has been the burial site for many ancient Mori warlords. Other notable things to do around Hagi are visits to Kikugahama beach, Hagi-yaki Festival, Hagi Historical Festival, and more.
